Healthy Weight Loss Plans - Your Motivation Determines Your Success Part 2 of 4

All too often, before one is barely out the starting gate with their Healthy Weight Loss Plan, they find themselves stumbling, veering off course and ultimately ending up in a heap of frustration and failure.

It All Starts in Your Head

Some of the things that undermine weight loss efforts-lack of conviction, self doubt, (I've tried dozens of diets and failed. I'll probably fail at this one, too.) poor self esteem, a Diet mindset. Also, to a lot of folks, eating Healthy is another way of saying "depriving yourself of the things that really taste good."

This sense of depriving oneself is the main reason people fail to lose weight. Their motivation to lose weight is overwhelmed by that desire to have those things that taste good. Perhaps something in this article will provide the motivation to focus on the "Healthy" part of Healthy Weight Loss Plans.

We Are All Creatures of Habit

Most of our food habits are bad ones. It may be a fast food habit, or throwing something in the microwave oven (which is banned in Europe for very good reason) pulling a prepared whatever out of the freezer, heating up something out of a can or a box on the stove, slapping some sodium nitrate laced meat between two pieces of fortified white bread and wolfing it down with the help of a can of soda, or you may even be in the habit of preparing some pretty decent meals, not knowing they contain unhealthy Trans fats and High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).

Grab a Notebook

If you get a notebook and write down everything you eat each day, you will soon realize you (and most of us) tend to eat the same stuff over and over, in amounts greater than we care to remember. And most of these things contribute to our overall girth, rather than health.

Watch Out For Low Fat, Low Calorie Stuff

Food manufacturers are in business for one reason. To make a profit. Despite what the label says-It's healthy, It's low in calories, It's low in fat, blah blah blah. Makers of processed foods are not guardians of your health, nor are they part of a Healthy Weight Loss Plan. For the sake of your health, you need to read beyond the label. "Low Fat and Low Calorie" have been magic buzzwords for the manufactured food industry for over 2 generations. And yet we as a nation, are fatter than ever. And you can't blame it on butter and eggs.

Processed Carbohydrates-The Real Reason We Are Obese

It has probably been several years now since it was revealed that processed carbs were the real reason behind the chronic obesity rate in this country, but it will probably be another 50 years before it becomes "common knowledge". Most of the processed carbs we eat are in the form of Wheat, Corn, and Soy based products. Corn and Soybean oil can be found in most processed foods. Corn and Soybean oil are nearly always processed with high heat and chemicals. (Think Trans fats.)

What's so bad About Processed Carbs, Anyway?

Processed Carbs typically result in big blood sugar swings and insulin surges that result in body fat storage. After years of consuming these processed carbs it becomes more and more difficult for the pancreas to produce the insulin necessary to take care of all this blood sugar. Type 2 Diabetes-the most common form of diabetes, is typically found in those who are overweight since fat interferes with the bodies ability to use insulin.

Here is a short list of Processed Carbs:

Chips, cakes, bread (even whole grain), bagels, muffins, cereals, cookies, crackers, white rice, candy, pasta, flour tortillas (wraps) - these are all highly processed wheat products loaded with nutrient poor calories. These are NOT part of a Healthy Weight Loss Plan.

Trans fats Evil Twin-High Fructose Corn Syrup(HFCS)

HFCS is one of Food Science most diabolical concoctions. During the past 30 years, per capita consumption of HFCS has steadily grown from 19 pounds a year to over 60 pounds a year.

HFCS is NOT the same as Sugar, which is bad enough by itself. The Fructose in HFCS is not attached to any other carbs, unlike the Fructose let's say in fruit, which is attached to fiber and slows the absorption of sugar.

The Fructose in HFCS increases one's lypogenesis-the body's ability to make fat, which causes higher levels of triglycerides or blood fat which increases one's risk of heart disease. HFCS has also been linked to liver disease, liver fibrosis and kidney disease.

Are You a Label Reader?

Next time you go grocery shopping, read labels and you will be amazed at how many products contain HFCS:

Soda--almost every brand, Cookies, Pastries, Salad Dressings, Catsup, or Ketchup, Pickle Relish, Tomato Sauce, Soups, Bread Crumbs; the list, unfortunately, is endless.(Diet Soda must be mentioned here because it is such a popular alternative for regular soda. Diet drinks have their own toxicity issues. They are not neutral.)

Perhaps the knowledge that Trans fats and HFCS are sabotaging your body will provide you with the reason to consider Healthy food choices and stick to a Healthy Weight Loss Plan.
