Exercising To Lose Weight - What Is The Best Exercise For Weight Loss?

According to the American College of Sports Medicine, the ideal amount of cardio exercise to lose weight you need to complete is 200 to 300 minutes per week. This exercise needs to performed at between 55% and 70% of your maximum heart rate in order to burn the maximum amount of fat for your effort.

That may seem quite a lot, but it's really only 3 to 5 hours a week, of medium intensity exercise.

What's Your Optimum Heart Rate When Doing Exercise For Weight Loss

Your maximum heart rate is defined as 220 minus your age. So if your thirty years old, your maximum heart rate would be 190 beats per minute.

So to exercise at 55% to 70% intensity, your heart rate should stay in the range of between 55% and 70% of 190 - which is 104 to 133. Keeping your heart rate in this range whilst exercising while mean you're burning the optimum amount of fat.

You are not expected to engage in five hours of cardiovascular activity at 70% of your maximum heart rate immediately. Start slow and build up gradually. For example, if you were previously sedentary, you can start with brisk walking at an exercise heart rate of 55% of your maximum heart rate three days a week, 20 minutes each time, and work upwards from there.

Progress by keeping the exercise intensity low and increasing the exercise duration or distance by about 10% per week. Once you have reached the desired frequency and exercise duration, start increasing the intensity. For example, if you were previously brisk walking, you can step up the intensity by alternating between 10 minutes of brisk walking and 5 minutes of jogging. Once you are accustomed to that, you can alternate between 10 minutes of brisk walking and 10 minutes of jogging, and so on.

Timing of Exercise

Does it matter what time during the day you exercise? Early in the morning, when the air is cool and clean, is ideal, especially if you exercise outdoors. But the overriding factor is convenience. We would be happy to find time to exercise, let alone be picky about the time of day. If you have a regular lunchtime, you may find it convenient to exercise then.

Some people prefer to exercise after work to unwind. Some finish work late or at a different time every day, so they may prefer exercising early in the morning, when the time is their own. Most people have difficulty falling asleep within two hours after exercise (due to elevated adrenaline levels), so exercising close to bedtime may not be ideal. The bottom line is: Choose a time that best fits your schedule, so that you maximize your total exercise time.

Another consideration is mealtimes. If you exercise on an empty stomach, you may feel too lethargic to exercise at the desired intensity and duration. But if you exercise soon after a meal, you would find it hard to exert yourself on a fall stomach. Generally, the most comfortable time to exercise is about two hours after a main meal.

Comfort aside, does the timing affect fat-burning? For example, if we exercise on an empty stomach, do we burn more body fat?

Our bodies have two main energy stores: the carbohydrate store (in the form of glycogen in the liver and muscles) and the fat store.

At moderate exercise intensities, the preferred fuel is carbohydrate, and when that runs out, the body will have no choice but to depend almost solely on the fat store. The body has about 2,000 kcal of carbohydrate stored up. When that is about to be used up, we feel like we've "hit the wall", as the body starts to rely heavily on the fat store, which releases energy slowly. This is why it is hard to maintain a high exercise intensity after hitting the wall.

It usually takes about 90 to 120 minutes of moderate- to high-intensity exercise (i.e. at 70% to 75°/o of the maximal aerobic capacity) before hitting the wall. However, when we are in a chronic energy deficit, our carbohydrate store is already "half empty", so we tend to hit the wall earlier. Aiming to hit the wall during routine exercise is not wise, as it is not sustainable and the total energy expenditure is not optimal over a long period.

Appetite is suppressed during and immediately after exercise, especially moderate-to high-intensity exercise. Take advantage of that. For example, if you tend to have a voracious appetite during dinner, go for a good workout just before dinner. That way, you won't eat as much for dinner. However, bear in mind that, an hour after exercise, your appetite will not only return but also increase, so going for supper more than an hour after a workout is not a good idea.

Advantages of Getting Obesity Surgery in Mexico

Mexico has been growing steadily over the years as a desired healthcare destination offering excellent quality medical and surgical procedures at relatively lesser prices.

Today, this Latin American country is extremely popular among worldwide medical tourists for cheap yet reliable weight loss surgery.

Located in North America, Mexico is known for its comprehensive range of surgery procedures such as cosmetic surgery, plastic surgery, overall makeover, dental surgery, hair transplantation and bariatric (weight loss) surgery.

As far as weight loss treatments and operations in this newly industrialized country are concerned, they are not only cost-effective but also of utmost quality.

One of the Latin America's medical tourism pioneers, Mexico's weight loss procedures are popular among obese people who are living in a country where obesity treatments are quite expensive and who are either uninsured or do not have enough money to pay for their treatment.

The skyrocketing costs of weight reduction procedures and long wait times to get the treatments are the major factors that led to the increasing popularity of weight loss surgery in Mexico. The ease and affordability of treatments, as well as the state-of-the-art technology and international level standards of pre- and post-surgery care in Mexico have contributed to the country's exploded popularity.

Obese patients can receive a whole host of procedures including gastric bypass surgery, vertical sleeve gastrectomy, lap band surgery, gastric banding or the gastric sleeve at a price that's way lower than the cost of these treatments in the first world countries like the United States, Canada and European nations.

Each year, a multitude of medical tourists from around the world throng Mexican hospitals and clinics to avail cheap yet excellent quality obesity treatments in order to get rid of their excess body weight.

Be it restrictive weight loss surgery or combined restrictive/malabsorptive surgery procedures, virtually all forms of body weight reduction procedures in this newly industrialized country are available at fairly less prices, even after airfare, treatment costs and lodging and dining expenses are taken into account.

Some top-notch Mexican hospitals are dedicated to the treatment of obesity, offering surgical options for morbid obesity and obesity-related diseases and conditions at a standard that is either at par or even superior when compared with the Western countries.

Using the most advanced technology and surgical equipments available, bariatric surgeons in leading Mexican hospitals can help you shed those unwanted extra pounds.

Some prestigious hospitals in Mexico are affiliated to various organizations like the Health Council of Mexico and Joint Commission International.

Many of the physicians and surgeons at Mexico have received their training in prestigious Western universities and are also certified by the international medical boards. Mexico is the world's most populous Spanish-speaking country; still most of the medical and nursing staff at the reputed hospitals can speak English fluently, making it convenient for the international medical tourists to converse freely with the staff.

Another advantage of getting obesity treatment in Mexico is that waiting time for scheduling any surgery in Mexico is almost nil. Foreign medical patients, who often dread facing long waiting lines to get healthcare services in their native country, can flock to Mexico to avail any kind of treatment in a timely manner.

Mexico's proximity to US and Canada also makes the country popular for weight loss surgeries with Americans and Canadians, who are now increasingly crossing the boundaries of their nations to avail cheap and best obesity treatments in the neighboring country.

Many world-class hospitals are located in cities like Tijuana and Guadalajara that are very close to the US border, making it convenient and notably inexpensive for Americans to get treated in Mexico.

The low-cost of treatments, coupled with the superior quality and proximity to the US border make Mexico a great destination for combining a holiday with the obesity treatment. While getting weight loss treatment in Mexico, you get an opportunity to have a rejuvenating holiday and explore the exotic nation, which is home to some beautiful beaches and fascinating Mayan pyramids.

How to Increase Metabolism, 3 Easy Ways

Wow what a question, how to increase metabolism. In order to lose weight we have to speed up the metabolism in our body. A quick dictionary definition of what metabolism does is that it burns what we eat to cause our body to have energy and get rid of the waste that we don't need.

In the US we have a tendency to be overweight. Why is this??? I would say one of the primary reasons is because processed foods are so easy to get and eat. I cook daily and I know that there are times that I just don't want to... It's one of those nights that a "let's go out honey" comes up. If you are working a full time job outside the house and then have to cook every evening, it becomes really easy to say "let's go out honey" or "let's bring something home that is already prepared." Unfortunately those foods have a lot of hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup in them as well as preservatives, artificial colors and salt. All of which add to our belly fat and our being overweight in general and not healthy in general.

Speaking of belly fat there is a lot of research out there that talks about belly fat leading to more inflammation in our body. Inflammation leads to all kinds of diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and the list goes on and on. If we can keep our weight down and especially around our middle we will be all the more healthy for it.

What are some of the things we need to do to find out how to increase our metabolism?

Eating correctly, fruits and vegetables of course but also meats that don't come from a grocery store. They are full of hormones, dyes and preservatives. If you can buy organic foods, do so, or you can join a natural foods co-op to be able to get better food at less cost.Have you ever given thought to going grocery shopping one time per week and preparing your food for a whole week all at once? It can be done and it sure saves a lot of time and energy during the week if all you have to do is to pull it out of the freezer in the morning and pop it in the oven at night.I know that most people don't like to think about exercising but this really helps. Try to find things that are fun... like playing with your kids in movement games. Chances are your kids need the exercise also if they have been in school all day. Be creative and you and your kids will have lots of fun and you will all feel better afterwards.

It doesn't have to be difficult and I will be writing more suggestions in other articles and on my website about this subject.

Factors Which Can Increase The Risk Of Complications During Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery is just like any other surgery in that there is a risk that the patient may experience some form of complication, either during or following the surgery. If a patient is concerned about any of these factors then it's highly advised that they discuss them with their surgeon prior to their surgery, so the proper steps can be taken to either limit or prevent them completely.

It's important to remember, though, that no surgery is completely risk-free, but common bariatric surgeries are relatively safe as the NHS outlined in 2012 in the section of their website entitled Weight Loss Surgery: "if you had no risk factors, your risk of death would 1 in 500."

Extreme Obesity

If the patient is extremely overweight then this will increase the risk of complications during surgery because of the increased amount of fat in the area. This will mean that it's much harder for the surgeon to work as his view may be obscured or using conventional surgical tools may be difficult due to the sheer amount of fat present.

This is why many bariatric surgeons demand that a patient adopt a specific diet and exercise program prior to the surgery, so the risk of any complications occurring is significantly reduced.

Inexperienced Surgeon

The risk of experiencing complications is heightened when an inexperienced surgeon is carrying out the surgery. This is because the surgeon may know what they are doing, but if anything unexpected happens during the surgery then they may not know what to do in this situation. Failure to respond correctly in a situation like this could mean that the procedure is carried out incorrectly, or even the death of the patient. The best advice here is to opt for a surgeon who carries out the specific procedure in the patient's specific healthcare facility on a regular basis.

History of Deep Vein Thrombosis

One of the most common causes of death, during and after surgery, is the pulmonary embolism, which is where a piece of a blood clot breaks away and causes breathing problems in the lungs. This happens in a quarter of all deep vein thrombosis cases. And, according to a BBC article on the official BBC website written by Carolyn Driver [when talking about the pulmonary embolism]: "Without treatment this can kill up to one in ten people."

Deep vein thrombosis occurs when a patient is inactive for a long period of time, but if the patient tells the surgeon about this history then they will be given a medicine, such as heparin, to thin the blood. The patient's legs may also be moved during the surgery to keep the flow of blood moving safely.

Various types of bariatric surgery can be undergone all around the world. Some people may decide to opt for a warm and tropical landscape where they might obtain a lap band in India, whereas others might decide to stay closer to home and get a gastric sleeve in Las Vegas instead.

How to Lose Weight Fast and Keep It Off

I don't like to call it "going on a diet," how about just "eating healthier." To me that sounds a lot better than the word diet. Eating healthy doesn't have to be such a drag. There are tons of foods that are good for you and your goal of "how to lose weight fast and keep it off".

Portion size is what we all need to watch out for. You can have some pasta, just not the supersize pasta! Think you can't lose weight fast and keep it off? Wrong! You can do anything you set your mind too. Speak things into existence. Stop putting yourself down!

1.) Watch your portions - It's better to eat 5-7 small healthy meals a day rather than two larger meals. The more you eat throughout the day the faster your metabolism will be. That's what you want to help lose weight!

2.) Take a walk outside in the sun - It releases chemicals in your body to cure depression or simple feel better! Take your dog on a walk to increase performance.

3.) Going to a gym - Everyone needs at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. The more you work out, the faster the weight will fall off and the more you will like it. Yoga is a form of exercise through stretching. It's relaxing, and very much a good workout!

3.) Eat until satisfied- A lot of people have the bad habit of over eating. If you eat until you are satisfied you won't gain the weight.

4.) Drink water before every meal - It's proven that water before every meal makes you feel fuller and a main part of the goal "how to lose weight fast and keep it off"!

5.) Salad is the key - Salad has a lot of fiber in it and all around helps you digest your food properly. Instead of letting it sit in your stomach and form to fat.

6.) Consider going Vegetarian or bake your foods instead of fry them.

7.) No junk food - Junk food isn't your friend and it's going to stop you from your goal of "how to lose weight fast and keep it off"! It definitely doesn't have your best interest at heart. Junk food in general gives you "empty calories".

8.) Stay away from beer - No one can rock the beer gut and women can get them too!

9.) Don't weight throughout the day - We all weight more during the day due to all the food and beverages. Weight in the morning and you won't be disappointed.

10.) Do not compare yourself to others - Everyone's bodies are different and they also work differently.

You can lose the weight and keep it off if you are committed. What are you willing to give up? Are you willing to stop binge eating, and gorging? Are you willing to give up fast food? Surprising Truth About a Flat Stomach

Recently I was asked this question, "I have been working on my abs for years and cannot get the six-pack I want. My diet is very healthy. What am I doing wrong?" This question made me pause and think. Many of us continue on a path even when it's obvious that things aren't working out as planned. Sometimes it's not our approach, but our goal that needs change.

Most people believe that abdominal exercises are key to achieving a flat stomach. When results are not immediate, they think their approach is flawed. The truth is, a six-pack is not the same as a flat stomach. And a six-pack is very difficult to achieve. If you have been doing all the right things and aren't seeing the results you want it's possible that your technique is not to blame.

The Myth

Perhaps the biggest myth regarding fitness is this: simply target a specific problem area with enough exercise and you will be able to get rid of the body fat in that spot. If you have been crunching yourself silly in search of perfect abs you might have been caught up in this trap.

This myth is so widespread partly because there is a lot of marketing behind it. Browse through workout videos and check out the titles: you will see mentions of thighs, butt, legs, and several synonyms for stomachs. Popular fitness magazines perpetuate the myth by offering "5-Minute Ab-Busting" workouts and "10 Moves for Trimmer Tummies." These keep us believing that if we work harder, we can eventually get the results we want.

But the truth is that getting a six-pack is very difficult. I'm in great shape now, and I have been working out for many years but have never had a six-pack. It's not for lack of trying! After years of struggling and too many crunches to count, I finally came to realize that the goal of a perfect six-pack was not right for me.

Whew - that realization was very liberating!

What it really takes to get flat abs

Are you ready for more hard ab truths? Not only is abdominal exercise not the best way to achieve flat abs, but getting them requires a lot of determination and also something might be absolutely impossible for some people.

One secret ingredient to achieving perfect abs is heredity and some of us simply don't have the gift of good genes.

Losing lots of body fat is the real key to getting flat abs. We already know what losing fat requires:

Eating a healthy diet low in caloriesHaving a regular cardio routineStrength training for the whole body

Flat abs means doing all of these things on a very regular basis for an extended period of time. If you have done all of these things, lost body fat, and still aren't seeing the results you want, there is a reason.

For some, the level of body fat required for our bodies to function in a healthy way is a higher rate of fat than would allow for perfectly flat abs. And for others, our lifestyles or schedules simply cannot sustain the amount of fat loss required to achieve a 'six-pack'.

So what does this mean? If you have done all of the right things and still aren't seeing the results you need, should you stop? Not necessarily. You shouldn't stop exercising and living a healthy lifestyle, but perhaps it is time to reevaluate your goals. If a six-pack isn't feasible, redefining your idea of perfect abs may give you some relief. Work on what you can change rather than getting sidetracked by what you simply can't achieve.

The Truth

A six-pack isn't a reasonable goal for everyone. Here's why:

Genes: for some, six-pack abs are not genetically feasible! But a flat stomach is within the reach of everyone.Diet: for some body types it's necessary to sustain an improbable level of fat loss to make a six-pack possible.Exercise: achieving a six-pack might require more exercise than is practical for a busy schedule. Sound familiar, moms?

It's time to reexamine your goals and ask yourself some difficult questions.

Do you really want a six-pack? Is that what you're really after? Can you work as hard as needed to achieve this goal? Do you have the time to put into getting your abs ripped? What if you do everything right and still don't achieve this goal? Are you willing to accept this? How will a six-pack benefit you? Will it change your life? What if you decide let go of this goal? What would happen if you focus on other pursuits?

You are not a failure if you don't reach a goal that was arguably impossible from the start. The real truth is, our bodies work as part of a whole, not as independent pieces. If we can accept this fact, it is a big step toward letting go of the impossible ideal and working toward a more realistic idea of perfection. It's okay to redefine what perfection means to you.

In fact, folks that have 'perfection' as one of their standards really doesn't have a standard at all, since there's no such thing as perfection!

So I repeat: is a 'six-pack' what you're really after? Or does being fit, healthy, and vital for long-term sound better to you?

So many moms get caught up in the marketing campaigns of advertisers and images of air-brushed twenty-somethings that they forget that it is they are truly after. Are you going to be a better mom with a six-pack?

Or will you be a better mom if you are healthy, fit, and vital, with enough energy to chase your kids around the park and have more than enough energy for your husband after the kids are asleep? How will it feel to know that you've got this part of your life totally handled?

Remember first outline what you want, and then figure out why you want it. What will it give you? Your reasons come first, and actions come second. Don't get sucked into someone else's ideas of what a 'perfect mom' should be, because the minute you do that, you're sunk. If you don't have an agenda for your life, your kids, your health, I guarantee someone else will.

And that someone else will be not only running your life but raising your kids and after the dream of 'someday'. I have news for you - the road to someday leads to a town called 'nowhere'. So define what you want now, and make it a believable goal for you that you can really see yourself as achieving.

From one mom to another - I want you to succeed in making your dreams come true, because I know we often put the needs of our kids and husbands ahead of our own. The trick isn't to devote every minute you have to getting yourself into shape - that's ridiculous! Moms simply don't have the time, energy, or ability at this stage in their lives. Rather, the idea here is to implement a couple of easy strategies that you can quickly incorporate into your usual routine so that you take consistent action everyday toward your goal. We're not going to rearrange your life and create this enormous upheaval - you've already got a number of things in your life that are working great. Why mess with that? We're just going to set up a couple of simple things that if you do them consistently will have a lasting impact on your weight goal.
